Local government reorganisation

Local government is changing. Local government reorganisation (LGR) is the process of reshaping how local public services are organised, governed and delivered.

The government wants to make it easier for residents to know where to go for help by replacing our current two-tier system with a simpler, more efficient council structure.

Three proposals are being considered by the government – it means a brand new unitary council or councils for Oxfordshire that would deliver all services. And now they want to find out what the people of Oxfordshire think. We'd appreciate your support in getting the message out.

Winter warmth

Cold damp dangerous housing is responsible for increases in respiratory problems, cardiovascular ill health and problems in childhood development. It costs the NHS £1.4 billion a year.

There is support available to all residents to help them stay warm, safe and independent in their homes.

Warm homes local grant

We’ve been awarded government funding to help residents on a low income make their homes more energy efficient.

The Warm Homes Local Grant is a government-backed scheme designed to provide fully funded energy efficiency upgrades - such as insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps - for eligible homeowners and private tenants. These improvements can make homes warmer, reduce energy bills, and help protect households from fuel poverty.

Funding is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so please help us spread the word.

Oxford temporary congestion charge

Six congestion charge locations in Oxford for anyone travelling by car are now in place. Residents can apply for a limited number of passes and permits are available for other groups including Blue Badge holders and mobile traders.

We would really appreciate it if you could help spread the word about the temporary congestion charge, so that people who live or drive into Oxford can apply for a permit, find out how it will work and how to pay the charge if they need to.

NHS Health Checks

We encourage everyone who is eligible for an NHS Health Check to take advantage of this opportunity when invited. It’s a great way for people who are aged between 40 to 74 without a pre-existing medical condition to stay on top of their health and wellbeing.

We would really appreciate it if you could raise awareness about free NHS Health Checks. Please download the communication toolkit from the ‘NHS Health Checks’ folder on our communications portal. The toolkit contains suggested text for use in newsletters, website or on your own social media channels.
